Fathers & Families Coalition - New York
Sharon Baptist Head Start
One of the first affiliates of FFCA is Sharon Baptist Head Start in the Bronx, New York, under the leadership of Ms. Barbara Manners. Over the years, her team has engaged on a Bronx Fatherhood Initiative as a focus for their Head Start organization.
Moreover, SBHS is our New York location for returning veterans that take a fellowship with Fathers & Families Coalition of America for community outreach as funded by The Mission Continues. Sharon Baptist Head Start opened its doors to 60 preschoolers in the summer of 1969. Our first home was in the basement of Sharon Baptist Church on Forest Avenue in the Bronx, New York. Since that time, we have grown to include childcare as well. Each year we’re able to enroll 384 children on three different campuses. The statistics have marked our impact on families, and the community was able to produce. Our vision is to inspire, empower, and, transform lives.

Community Fathers Incorporated
Walter Simpkins is the Executive Director of Community Fathers Incorporated. Community Fathers Incorporated is a 501(c)3 Non-profit organization that began as a once a week support group for men in the community. The ideology came from Fathers who had been through life's struggles and needed guidance and advice on how to continue through the tough times. A handful of dedicated men showed up weekly and began holding each other accountable for the decisions they made and the situations they put themselves n.

Saint Jemuel Day Care Head Start Program
Saint Jemuel Day Care Center is an Administration for Children Services (ACS) Daycare Center. St. Jemuel operated as a licensed group family day care in the Kingsbridge neighborhood for over nine years before awarded ACS funded contract. With the downturn in the economy, many of our families who were private paying were no longer able to afford the services, and we experienced declining enrollment, although the need for services in the community had not diminished.
In 2012, ACS provided an opportunity for both St. Jemuel and the families in the Kingsbridge community, and in 2014, we added a DOE UPK classroom that accommodates 17 pre-kindergarten children. We now can help 27 pre-K children. Our population is predominately Hispanic, but we have a diverse student population, with representation from Hispaniola, the English speaking Caribbean, Africa, and the United States.
