Full Biography

Dr. Alicia L. Jackson, PhD, is an accomplished mental health professional, academic leader, and community advocate whose work spans higher education clinical programming, counseling psychology, outreach, training, and the integration of treatment and behavioral health services for diverse populations. She currently serves as Coordinator of Clinical Programs at Florida A&M University, where her leadership is centered on counseling, outreach, psychoeducational groups, and innovative presentations designed to meet the mental health needs of students and communities.

Dr. Jackson also serves as an Executive Fellow with the Fathers and Families Coalition of America, contributing executive-level support to FFCA’s infrastructure, operations, and mission-facing initiatives. She is entrusted with key responsibilities connected to the International Families and Fathers Conference, including coordinating and developing strategies for conference activities and strengthening networking with key stakeholders to enhance organization infrastructure and operations. As part of her fellowship, she also participates in mentorship meetings to learn and contribute to administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the organization, while providing training aligned with FFCA’s commitment to prevention and community well-being—most notably as a Certified QPR Instructor delivering QPR Suicide Prevention Certificate Training.

A proud native of Quincy, Florida, Dr. Jackson graduated from James A. Shanks High School in 1997 and pursued her undergraduate degree at Florida A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. Following graduation, she continued her graduate education at Florida A&M University, earning a Master of Science in Community Psychology. She later became the first Florida A&M University student accepted into the University of Georgia’s Counseling Psychology doctoral program, completing her PhD in Counseling Psychology. This pioneering milestone is emblematic of her academic excellence, perseverance, and enduring commitment to clinical and community-centered service.

Executive Fellow, Fathers and Families Coalition of America

Dr. Jackson’s Executive Fellowship (Feb 2025 – Present) is grounded in mission execution and leadership development. Her fellowship contributions include conference oversight responsibilities and strategic coordination designed to elevate FFCA’s organizational capacity, stakeholder relationships, and operational excellence.

  • Coordinated and developed strategies for conference activities, enhancing networking with key stakeholders to improve organizational infrastructure and operations.
  • Implemented mentorship meetings to learn administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the organization.

Florida A&M University: Clinical Programs & Behavioral Health Integration

At Florida A&M University, Dr. Jackson’s role as Coordinator for Clinical Programs is at the forefront of integrating treatment and behavioral health into higher education. With an emphasis on counseling and outreach, her work encompasses the administration of psychoeducational groups and the design of innovative presentations that address mental health needs across diverse student populations and community contexts.

Dr. Jackson has served in this clinical leadership capacity since May 2016. Her skill set reflects depth and breadth across counseling psychology, program development, crisis intervention, group therapy, clinical supervision, and evidence-based interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and stress management.

She has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Florida A&M University and at Tallahassee Community College, teaching General Psychology and supporting students through structured online learning environments.

Public Scholarship, Faith-Informed Wellness, and Community Education

Dr. Jackson’s public scholarship and service reflect a holistic approach to mental wellness. Her podcast work, including “God’s Promises” on Spotify, reflects her dedication to discussing the intersection of Christianity and mental health, underscoring her commitment to whole-person well-being and stigma reduction.

She is a former guest speaker for a segment of the Journey Chronicles podcast entitled “Moments by AJ,” which explores Christian faith and mental health topics. She has also served as a radio ministry host through Midway Unity Fellowship Church, where her “Mental Health Moment” segment promoted education, support, and reduced stigma within faith communities. Dr. Jackson leads the radio ministry at Midway Unity Fellowship Church and is awaiting her new role as Associate Pastor.

In addition to her clinical and educational leadership, Dr. Jackson is a committed community servant and leader. She serves as a current board member on the Community Economic Development Organization (CEDO) board of directors for Crossroad Academy, a charter school in Quincy, Florida, and serves on the School Advisory Board. She is also a newly appointed board member of Day of Dialogue on Minority Health, Inc.
